Welcome back to Bad Dads Film Review! In today’s episode, we’re diving into the damp and delightful world of our favorite cold-blooded creatures with a countdown of the Top 5 Amphibians in film and television. Following that, we'll kick into action with a review of TMNT: Out of the Shadows and cap off with a classic episode breakdown of TMNT: S1EP25 Showdown.

Top 5 Amphibians in Film and Television:

  1. Kermit the Frog - The Muppet Show and various movies - Perhaps the most famous frog in the world, Kermit has been a staple of children’s entertainment since the 1950s, known for his philosophical musings and gentle leadership of the often chaotic Muppet crew.
  2. Michigan J. Frog - Looney Tunes - Famous for his "Hello My Baby" routine, Michigan J. Frog epitomizes the surprise-amphibian-star, thrilling audiences with his song and dance in one moment and reverting to a simple frog the next.
  3. Hypnotoad - Futurama - All glory to the Hypnotoad! This mesmerizing character from Futurama has become a cult icon, known for his ability to hypnotize any onlooker with his oscillating, multicolored eyes.
  4. Jabba the Hutt - Star Wars - While not a traditional amphibian, Jabba’s slug-like, amphibious nature earns him a spot on our list. This notorious gangster of the Star Wars universe uses his slimy charm to control his criminal empire.
  5. Pascal - Tangled - Rapunzel’s pet chameleon offers comic relief and emotional support with his expressive eyes and dynamic color changes, proving that even small amphibians can play big roles on screen.

Main Feature: TMNT: Out of the Shadows (2016) Jumping from amphibians to reptiles, TMNT: Out of the Shadows brings back our favorite ninja turtles for more high-octane action and brotherly camaraderie. In this sequel, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael face off against their classic nemesis, Shredder, who has joined forces with the mad scientist Baxter Stockman and the two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop and Rocksteady, to unleash chaos in New York City.

Classic Episode: TMNT S1EP25 "Showdown" We also revisit the classic animated series with episode 25 from Season 1, "Showdown." This pivotal two-part episode features the Turtles’ climactic battle with Shredder, offering plenty of martial arts action and strategic teamwork, underscoring the themes of family and perseverance that run throughout the series.

Discussion Points:

  • Character Evolution: How amphibian characters have evolved in film and TV from mere comic relief to beings with depth and complex personalities.
  • The Role of Animals in Storytelling: What roles do amphibious characters often play in narratives? What qualities make them so endearing or entertaining?
  • Ninja Turtles Phenomenon: The lasting appeal of the TMNT franchise and its impact on pop culture.

Whether you’re a fan of real-life amphibians, animated antics, or ninja battles, today’s episode promises a mix of fun facts, deep dives, and nostalgic looks at some of our favorite cold-blooded heroes on screen. Tune in as we explore the slippery, slimy, and sometimes hyp

TMNT Out Of The Shadows

Reegs: Welcome to Bad Dad's film

Review, the film review show that breaks all the podcast rules and lets the hosts use their mouths in a revolutionary new process we call speaking. This week's turtle themed content starts with a chat about the top five amphibians.

And yes, we do know that turtles aren't amphibians. But we're dads, not testitudinologists. After that no doubt ribbiting discussion, we'll look back at 2016's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Out of the Shadows. Spoiler alert, they do in fact remain in the shadows at the end of the movie. Before we finish things off with a look at the 2012 TV series of Teenage Mutant Ninja

Turtles.

This time they're back in CG and with new music. But were those both terrible decisions or am I just an old man nostalgic for my youth? tune in to find out. Now regular listeners will know that we're producing this podcast in the man cave.

Situated in the picturesque holiday island of Jersey.

Famous for, amongst other things, Goree CASTLE One of two striking coastal strongholds, this impressive looking fortress was first mentioned in the year 1212 and was then the seat of royal power on the island until 1594. Now, of course, it's just a reminder of the former glories of a decaying medieval remnant.

Speaking

of which, let's meet the dads! Starting, of course, with Dan,

who's so old he remembers them when they were just the toddler mutant Ninja Turtles. We also have gorgeous Chris, he's so beautiful he can bring even the shyest individual out of their shell. And there's also Podfather Sidey, and as is traditional on these occasions you went down to the basement of the man cave earlier, didn't you, to retrieve the equipment for tonight?

And it's quite cramped and dusty down there, and the elderly caretaker who runs the place, he can be a bit bad at maintaining the

devices.

so, you had to buff the old fella's tool in the dark, didn't

Sidey: yeah.

At least

Reegs: yeah?

So

Dan: Well, I appreciate it. you know, it's

Reegs: sorted

Dan: yeah, it's a little stickier than normal, but it's, it's here.

Sidey: did a Top five last week

Reegs: I

did know

Sidey: It was Annoying Voices.

Dan: Huh.

Sidey: you want to hear some nominations that we

had

Dan: Did we get all nominated?

Sidey: We did on Discord. We had Peewee Herman and The Computer from Flight the Navigator, which was voiced by Paul rubens he's dead and had a dodgy past, according to Darren then we had Adam Sandler, and there's a lot of characters with annoying

Dan: Yeah, Little Nick, Little Nicky was one,

Reegs: That was the one that I

Sidey: So

Breachy put up

for consideration. The Waterboy, Eight Crazy Nights, Billy Madison Hubie Halloween, Sandy Wexler.

Reegs: yeah.

Sidey: That's my

boy Even Uncut Jams, that was

what was her

name?

Dan: Billy Madison's a good shout.

Sidey: What's that? She's

She's

like a bit of a social like the It Girl woman.

She's the

one who says that.

Reegs: on. Yeah.

Sidey: gems

Anyway and then, yeah, rigs chipped in with Little nicky. It's probably the shout.

And then, there was Paulie Shaw.

Dan: umw.

Sidey: the there's a Pinocchio bit that

reaches put a link to, you can watch that. And then we've got our nominees, for he's got something this week

Reegs: Oh, Chris, there was a strong endorsement of your position on Napoleon Dynamite from Shat, who agrees it's absolute garbage and he hates

Cris: I told you.

So there's at least one that shares my opinion. yeah.

Reegs: Yeah?

Dan: No,

we found, we found him. Yeah. No, It's nice appreciated

People feeding into us, even. um you know, with Wildly different opinions to our own. Did

Sidey: Did anyone watch anything? I

think there's a topic we should

avoid Yeah.

Dan: topic we should avoid. I

Sidey: I don't

think I watched anything other than that sort of thing.

Dan: anything

other than that sort of thing. Yeah, I haven't watched anything other

Sidey: I did I did watch as well, it's gone really

Dan: You did anything, Riggs? No. No, nothing out of the ordinary?

Reegs: is I think the second bottle of commiseration champagne at about half past eleven last night may have been a mistake.

Dan: been a mistake.

Yeah, it's possible but there you go. It was filled with tears. It would have

Sidey: have tasted so much sweeter. yeah

Reegs: It would have done.

Cris: Yeah,

I've not watched anything. I was busy with work last week.

Worked over the weekend had a great time last night. Loved it. Every minute of it.

Dan: You and your sombrero, yeah.

Cris: enjoyed some tapas, some

kava

here in the man cave.

All the good

Dan: Yeah, yeah, you had a strong theme.

Sidey: you.

Anyhow, should we crack

Dan: Let's do that. Top fives.

Sidey: Top five amphibians.

Reegs: Yeah.

Dan: Give us an example of where you're going with this.

Sidey: Well, I can do that, very much so.

Dan: Come on, hop along.

Sidey: Well, frogs

are

amphibious creatures. And Kermit the Frog It's right

there in his name. He is one. He's transcends

the

Muppet Show. He's in everything. He even has a cover of Once in a Lifetime by Talking Heads.

Reegs: Yeah,

where

he's got the wide suit as

Dan: just the nicest guy though, isn't he, Kermit? He is, he's

a doormat,

Sidey: I think. Miss Piggy

Dan: I think he's just a really

Reegs: movies are about him finding a spine and that kind of

thing.

Dan: Yeah, I like Kermit, always have, always will.

He's just kind of

a nice guy.

Reegs: He is got an evil nemesis called Constantine, is that it? In Muppet's. Most Wanted.

who? Who looks identical to him, I think. Has he got an eye patch or a

Dan: he got an eyepatch or a moustache or something? As

Reegs: good as, as good as Kermit is,

Constantine

is bad, so. Wow. Yeah.

Sidey: there

Dan: you

go.

Sidey: dissected,

Dan: Yeah.

Okay.

It's that scene where the Elliot is in the classroom and with all the kids and

I don't, do they still do this in schools? Do they

dissect?

Sidey: never had to

Dan: it. No, I

don't

Cris: I

  1. The frogs, yeah, in school, in biology. Second grade or third grade?

Oh, very young as well, it's

Dan: Yeah.

Cris: Or

no, maybe, maybe sixth grade.

Reegs: What size?

Sidey: Twelve? Eleven, twelve. Right.

Reegs: Right.

Sidey: Did you get to eat it afterwards?

Cris: No, no, no, no, no. They just show you because the muscular system and the stomach and the organs are in a way, similarly shaped inside your body as as their body as humans, and it's also to do with, to teach you in anatomy, how, what does what and where it is, what, and all that stuff.

We also had frogs in the lakes, in the parks in Bucharest. So you could do it at home if you wanted to,

Reegs: I know a few

Cris: a few kids that did that.

Dan: yeah, just That's right. Yeah. Those listening to the

Cris: so, yeah. I dunno. I'm

just saying

It

it happened.

Sidey: He

Dan: he, starts getting like the ESP, doesn't He from

Reegs: telepathically linked with

Dan: with et

And and basically they all start going,

don't they They all, they all start hopping out around the classroom and everything. And he just kind of freaked out for a moment.

Um,

Being

that et had

started speaking

to him

telepathically

and he wasn't sure what was going on.

Reegs: Yeah.

Dan: So

there's, there's a solid Fog scene. lot

Reegs: lot of frog scenes really, isn't there? I mean, I've got a few different amphibians, but

Dan: mostly frogs. I've got?

Reegs: I've got an axolotl.

where is

my, an axolotl? Where,

Sidey: I also have an

Reegs: Where is it, though? Where is it?

Sidey: Well, there's one in Minecraft.

Reegs: Oh,

it's in, it's actually in Tree of Life, which has got a good amount of amphibian content in it. It's got a scene where somebody ties a rocket to, a frog to a rocket and sets it up into the sky.

So, you could have done that in Bucharest as well, I imagine.

Tie a frog to a rocket and Launch it.

Cris: No, we did I, I, I can't say

Reegs: that. No. Um, And in the section of the film that shows like everything evolving from the big band through the dinosaurs, there's a prominent scene of an Axel Lottle. So

that

is a pretty good. amphibian.

Sidey: There's Axel. The Axel lot in Minecraft story mode as well.

Reegs: Did, we watched that, didn't we? Wow. We watched that fucking Minecraft thing for,

Sidey: for this.

Reegs: For Netflix, yeah, we, that

Netflix one,

we watched it,

remember?

it was really weird.

Dan: It

Cris: I don't

Dan: been before my

time.

Cris: have been before my time.

I have got a frog. Sorry. I don't, I dunno what kind of frog. It's a

Dan: a

Cris: Which I've seen in a movie which we reviewed and I, I haven't seen before. We did for the pod the wickerman where the guy gives the, the girl the frog.

Dan: Oh, in the mouth?

Cris: Yes. Yeah,

Sidey: the

Reegs: cure for

Sore

Cris: yes, yeah, it's not a main character in a movie, but

ever since I've seen that I was thinking , if I ever get a sore throat, well, I make an attempt to do that ever again, but probably

Dan: the right frog.

I think

that's fairly important and,

and the

Cris: be the ones I, I would

de definitely try the ones that Mike Tyson raves about,

Dan: Yeah, yeah, they'd probably, you'd probably

Cris: I dunno if that fixes your

Dan: You would probably forget all about it. To

be fair, you're a

Cris: I would imagine soul,

Reegs: But it's

a big thing, isn't it? You think of people licking. Frogs or toads and getting absolutely like like it's

peyote or something. So

Dan: Yeah,

it's probably how we evolved

isn't it?

Mm-Hmm. Eating

Cris: There is a theory. Yeah. Yeah that and mushrooms that the monkey ate a mushroom or licked a toad and

Reegs: And

Dan: consciousness and, and

turned into me. Yeah,

it's not a, it's not a huge stretch. It's not

Cris: I've

Sidey: I've

got a toad.

Dan: okay.

Sidey: Trevor the toad

Trevor is Neville

Longbottom's Toad from the Harry Potter series. He frequently goes misses and causes high jinx.

and

then of course Toad, from Toad, you know, The Wind in the willows

Dan: Toad. yeah.

Sidey: wears clothes. I think he has a monocle.

It's

pretty dapper.

Dan: Yeah.

Reegs: Yeah.

it

drives that car like a dick. On the country lanes,

Sidey: in the

Reegs: And there's Toad in the X Men as well.

Sidey: there's

Toad in

the X Men as well Was

Dan: I was, I was gonna bring in some cars that had been towed, but I left that.

Reegs: What was the thing about, there was like that terrible line, what happens to a toad when it gets hit by lightning.

Do you remember it? The same as anything else, right? some absolutely

Sidey: what Storm said it to him?

Dan: Did you ever see The Defiant Ones? Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier as a A couple of convicts. Chained to each other, hate each other. It went for a couple Oscars back in the fifties and at one point, as they're going through at night, they have to, they hear a bull toad or a bullfrog and kill it with sticks and eat it.

Reegs: Right.

Dan: Yeah,

that's,

Reegs: I've eaten

Dan: the the

fine one

Sidey: though that

Dan: I,

I've not,

I've got another old one though that I can add in. That i'm not sure if you guys would have on a 1924 film with harold lloyd called girl shy

Reegs: I've not seen a lot

Dan: harold lloyd.

was

brilliant, he was so

it again, you know, silent movies and everything and he's writing a book on How to make love although he's got no experience himself.

And he's taking this gale out. To try and get a bit of experience And first,

He goes to like this place by the river or by a big watering

area

and there's some people there so we can't go there and then there's some boys who are skinny dipping or something he can't go over there and they eventually goes oh right we'll sit here and he sits on a on a rock and she sat on a on a branch but then the rock starts moving and he sat on it. It's a

sea turtle

and it's kind of moving out into the sea and he by the time he realizes comedy and shoes and he's got all wet and everything, but

it

was really, really funny Harold

Lloyd

back in the day.

I mean, just as you know, one of those comedians, that are physical comedian that uses everything, falling over and

all that kind of thing. to to get a few laughs.

Cris: laughs. and

Dan: It's one of the shows.

Sidey: Dafoe?

Cris: I

think so.

Reegs: Oh, Lars von Trier. Is the one with

Cris: Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's also a scene in, in it where two real frogs

watch

two girls in a bathroom do the frog.

Sidey: What?

Cris: Yeah, the frog.

Sidey: Oh,

right.

Well, it's scissoring. Right, okay,

Cris: So it's a movie about

Reegs: perhaps, can you two just demonstrate ?

Cris: Yeah. Can we, can we have

Dan: could you

yeah we'll

get well that that's all I know what you mean. yeah, That's it. There you go

Sidey: Yeah. I've never seen that one. Doesn't he end up cutting his

That's

Cris: no, no, no. This is a bit more There is a bit of masochism. There's quite a lot of sexual content, as you can imagine from a movie called Nymphomania. But I'm surprised. I remember watching it quite a while ago. I think it's 2014. But when I watched it, I didn't expect it to be so Out there, really.

I, you know, you,

you

don't

expect to see someone's dick and just,

well, yeah.

Anyway, yeah, that

he's got

frogs in it. It's again, they're not the main character like Kermit the Frog or all these other guys, but

Reegs: Prominent

frog.

Dan: counted as chameleon? No. No, we're not having that, Yeah,

Reegs: is not a frog.

Sidey: is a

frog in that movie

though.

Cris: but is it amphibian,

Dan: movie. There's a turtle as well, isn't there, in the isn't he the sheriff? Or something like that, there's like a,

a tortoise or something like that.

Reegs: I've got a salamander. I've got two, I've got two Nick Cage films with salamanders

Sidey: Okay.

Reegs: So, and that is an

Dan: amphibian. I've got one.

Sidey: So have I.

Reegs: Color Out

of Space. Mandy. Oh, what? There's another

Sidey: I don't think he's talking about Nick Cage.

Dan: No, I'm talking about the girl with the dragon tattoo, Lisbeth Salander.

Yeah, well it's close, isn't

Sidey: Go on, let's get back onto Nick Cage.

I've seen Color Out of with the

woman

who cuts her finger off near the start

Reegs: cuts her

finger

Sidey: where he cries for ages in the bog.

Reegs: near the

Sidey: Okay. Right. I've got another salamander. It was

from

some niche little independent movie. I don't know if you've heard of It's called Frozen

two

Reegs: Yes.

Sidey: it was the sort of elemental salamander thing that she finds in the forest.

Dan: the pink. purple thing. Yeah, Yeah.

Sidey: elemental, isn't it? Yeah.

That was

Dan: Okay our favorite

Family of animal abusers the swiss family robinson, of course had Their go on a giant sea

turtle

The

little boy Lassoed one didn't need to drag his raft. up and down through the sea and he also

A ride on the beach on a giant.

Tortoise

there as well.

As the ty not

uh uh,

Sorry. Yeah. Yeah giant tortoise

What?

Amphibian water

land.

Reegs: Yeah.

no, they are.

Sidey: It was

shockingly

like,

just

bad.

Dan: Yeah. yeah. it is.

Sidey: even Talking about it there, I'm like, fuck me. It was so

Dan: It It was

shocking

Sidey: to see. it

Reegs: The monkey riding an ostrich.

was Honestly.

the fuck?

Dan: They

j Yeah, I

Cris: you I've seen a live at the circus when I was a kid, a polar bear riding a tricycle. So that's nothing. A monkey

Sidey: you do a wheelie?

Cris: wheelie? I can't remember. I remember seeing it and I couldn't believe it. But I can't.

Sidey: imagine

The level of

torture and appallingness. they must

Cris: Oh, it was, must have been shocking.

Sidey: absolutely dreadful.

Anyhow where are we at Steve? Chris, I think?

Cris: I've, I'm

out.

I, I don't,

Reegs: Paul

Thomas Anderson's Magnolia. Did you ever see that?

Sidey: rains,

Reegs: rains frogs. In a thing that people swear has happened multiple times. Oh brother, where art thou.

Sidey: Yep.

Reegs: Do you remember the scene where they meet the sirens? There's Delma and the other, the three, Everett and the other guy they're on the run. And

they

meet the sirens and they have moonshine. They pass out and when they wake up, Pete, who's gone for a swim in the lake or whatever, they've seen his clothes there and there's a frog. And they think Pete's been turned into a frog, so they like bundle him into a

box and off they go. And then later, John Goodman.

Like

He takes him out for lunch, sees this box that they're trying to protect, thinks that there's something important in there. When he sees it's a frog, he just crushes it.

and

he throws it against the tree and it's what's his name?

Dan: Yes, the

other convict.

Reegs: Yeah, and he's going, no, Pete!

no,

Sidey: John Turturro.

Jim Blake

Reegs: Yeah, Tim Blake Nelson. Yeah,

Pete!

So, Yeah,

It was a strong contender for me to, for that to be nominated.

Sidey: contender for Me. to, for

Reegs: amphibious vehicle

Dan: Ah,

this

this, is the one I've been waiting for. These ones. And also

Sidey: this is the one.

I've been waiting for. that have been adapted to go on the

Dan: And

there's

various Newts in

films

of witches. and I have Newton and things like that because yeah, we have, we have a few reptiles in there

instead

of amphibians, but that's me pretty much done.

Yeah, I think we have. But

Cris: crocodile count in this,

Reegs: that's a reptile,

Cris: it? Okay.

Right.

Dan: Any

Sidey: any more rigs?

Reegs: Probably

just my choice. I would say. What? Choose.

Sidey: Hell.

Reegs: Hell Comes to Frogtown. I think I've talked about this movie on the pod before. It's a B movie from the 80s starring Rowdy Roddy Piper as Sam Hell. He's one of the only not sterile men left on the world. And he he is abducted by sort of two beautiful female soldiers and coerced into rescuing

a humanoid frogs.

So

Cris: sounds

Dan: Yeah, solid solid choice. I could choose sound of music when those boisterous children put a toad in matron's pocket or apocalypto where they, they use a bit of toad poison for the

poison

in darts on that. And from those two, I think I'll go for ET and dissecting the the toing score.

Sidey: Chris,

Cris: the Wicker Man.

Dan: I'm

Sidey: I'm going to put in it's the bullfrog in the Simpsons when they go to Australia, but smuggles it into the country. . And

Dan: you're explicitly

Sidey: they're told, you know, you explicitly, not allowed to do that because it can be dangerous for the ecosystem, whatever. But when they go to a shop and they show it to an Australian guy and he's like, what's that?

And

he goes it's

a bullfrog. Yeah, that's a funny name. I'd call it a Charles Waller. And then then when they fly out there's a million of them all over. the

Reegs: of them all

over.

Sidey: Yeah, so putting that in. We did have some, nominations online because I was,

able

to put up the thing on Discord today. So we've had Newt, the character Newt from Aliens.

Dan: Oh, I like That

Sidey: that was darren lethally put that one up breeches got frogs from the film. Frogs, the most B

Reegs: Yeah,

Sidey: Poster 100 times better than the film. posters a frog with a hand, like,

coming

out of it.

and

then down with you came back with the Frog Chorus.

Dan: Ah

Reegs: i

Sidey: keep them coming.

the top five.

Reegs: top five.

Yeah. Well, that's

Sidey: Yeah.

Dan: But it was

a great video. I remember that, yeah.

Sidey: Right, we need your noms to finish it off.

Dan: Bring them in.

Sidey: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Yep. This

Cris: this is what we're doing.

Sidey: Yeah. It's

Dan: Yeah.

Cris: that mean?

Sidey: out of the shadows.

Cris: Oh.

Dan: out the

Sidey: This is the sequel.

Cris: Yeah, I've realized that

as I was watching it. Yeah,

Dan: Yeah, so

they'd already, I've not

seen the first one but they, they

allude to it where they've

saved the

New York,

and given

the credit to the falcon. Because they want to remain in the a little

Sidey: him a little bit after, but we get,

first of all, we get to see the turtles and all that.

Reegs: whoa, whoa. well, can we not, can we just go, can we talk a little bit about the turtles though, because we're going, this is turtles week, right? And we get, So were you big fan of the turtles? Yeah,

yeah,

Sidey: shitty like,

Watered down animated, Right. program that we had as kids, but I like I was into the comic

books

Reegs: Okay, so proper

Sidey: was into the source material.

Which is really dark and violent.

Reegs: The Peter Laird and Kevin

Sidey: yes

Cris: liked the cartoons when I was

a kid.

Sidey: See over here they change it to hero and i'd say ninja they change it to Hero

So it's even more watered

Cris: even more

Reegs: Yeah. Ninjas are too violent.

And the toys were good as well. I did have some of the toys,

Sidey: the

thing that's in this, the the garbage truck, that fires, the, that you could get that.

Reegs: Yeah,

People

I knew had it.

Yeah.

Dan: Yeah,

there was a certain period where you couldn't escape these guys.

Michelangelo, Donatello,

Raphael, and

Sidey: Leonardo. He's the fucking

Dan: the leader. The leader of the gang.

Reegs: But so you were a fan of the the comics but not

the

animated

Sidey: animated tv the Hero Tales, Because it just was so weak compared to how violent and good the books

Dan: they did a live

version

kind of

kids thing

For this as well, didn't they Live like a, Like, you know, not an animation

version

for the

the,

Sidey: There's been different film versions. of this, that's what you mean, Yeah

Dan: maybe that's

Reegs: there was a

Sidey: Yeah, men in suits with vanilla ice.

They do a little callback too in

Dan: Yeah. Yeah.

Reegs: Still pretty good that movie as I recall and there was one where I think Raphael goes back in time as well back to feudal Japan

Sidey: because there's a comic book series of that

Reegs: yeah

Sidey: yeah cool there's also a crossover with Batman and Turtles. yeah

Reegs: Okay,

so we're coming from a position of we've got one like absolute turtle aficionado

People who fondly remember it from

childhood and playing with the toys

Cris: Yeah.

Yeah. I, I, I didn't, I remember I stole one of the, I can't remember which one it was. Obviously I didn't have any money to buy the real toys and I was going to this kid's house to play. I was very young. And then I remember I stole one of the turtles. I brought it home with me. I was like, fuck this. You had too many of them.

It's okay. I can, I can take one

Dan: that's that's how much turtle fever, you know, just taking otherwise innocent children and just turned them into Thieves, yeah kleptomaniacs

had to have the

Sidey: but like you say, it was like an absolutely like

vast

phenomenon. and so there's there's loads of different ips and versions of this. There's different films and animated series, and we're going to watch one of the animated series later, and talk about that.

Reegs: a reboot, like you said it, was it Michael Bay who did that one?

night?

Sidey: no, that's what I was thinking this was, but this is not. it

Reegs: It was just produced

by them.

I do remember seeing the first one and being a little bit meh about it.

Sidey: So in the first one they fought Shredder and he's been captured. That's how this starts. And, when we were introduced to them they're kind of They're going across the skyline,

Reegs: they?

They're

Cris: They're on the Empire State Building, no?

Reegs: It's the Chrysler building, I think, isn't It

Yeah

Cris: anyway, one of them.

Sidey: across rooftops from jumping through, and it's all one long continuous shot. And it culminates in them going to Madison Square Garden, hiding in the rafters there and watching the the B ball.

Dan: Yeah, until Mikey, who loves pizza, drops a slice and a player slips on it, they're

they're

fairly undetected there. But the Falcon Is also doing a victory lap and just enjoying his celebrity of having saved the city and they kind of pick out little bits of

know is it? Cardboard or paper they're blowing into his ear, you know onto his face aren't they

Sidey: Yeah

it's Will Arnett. Who I love and yeah, because this is the out of the shadows, but they are still at this point

Reegs: in the shadows

Sidey: They're not Allowed to

disclose

that

there

are mutant

turtles

going around.

So

he's the sort of cover up guy who's saved the city in the first movie.

And he's going, leaning into that and being a big headed bit of a prick

about it all.

Reegs: So, April O'Neill, Megan Fox, the journalist calls the turtles to say she's at Grand Central Station watching out for this guy, Baxter Stockman, played by Tyler Perry's scientist, and she thinks he's working with Shredder. And she's got this like watch thing that can hack his iPad, but she has to be within three feet of him.

Dan: I can't believe the Bluetooth doesn't work further than that. You know, this, this device can do everything,

Sidey: it's something that Michelangelo's given her, isn't it?

Dan: that's right.

Yeah.

Sidey: it can hack at a certain

Reegs: it even

says not in range, like in the giant

Sidey: Yeah, We know that he's clever because he's got glasses.

Reegs: Yeah, And he's the scrawnier one of them all. because they do, look, they are

Right, the toys were basically just interchangeable

Sidey: different color bandanas.

Reegs: bandanas. Yeah, in this, Raphael is a hulking brute.

Dan: Mikey's a no, yeah

Reegs: Leonardo's like really cut, and then Mikey's kind of in between, no, physically, like, they really look very different, the turtles, and they've got lots of detail, which you're either a big fan of, like me, or you hated.

Sidey: I hated the character sign. really hated it.

Reegs: I think it was okay, I enjoyed it. So, there you go, there's two different so, yeah anyway. She has to follow this guy, and amazingly, she, he, some other guy takes his iPad off, so she has to follow him, and that necessitates her dressing as a schoolgirl.

Sidey: Yeah,

she has to put on a micro skirt, and,

Dan: and Finish the download.

She's up to about 68%.

Sidey: a load of other sort of, I think it's called Kawai, isn't it? It's a cutesy Japanese kind of style. These girls just

just

milling around, taking photos of people in Grand Central, and she joins in and is able to hack the rest files.

Dan: She

Reegs: out that Stockman's working for Shredder and plans to bust him out of jail, basically.

as

would imagine.

And next we go to a prison transfer, I think. This is where we get our first introduction to Bebop and Rocksteady in their human

Sidey: Yeah.

Dan: That's right, they're in the back of a transport van with Shredder. They're going off to the big house. But this is where They don't know this yet, but they're gonna bust Shredder out.

Reegs: Yeah,

Sidey: Yeah the

Reegs: they are Seamus. Seamus is one of the guys.

Cris: Yeah,

Seamus and the other one, I don't know if it's Dada5000, the guy with the Mohawk. I don't know

Reegs: know who he

Cris: He's also a fighter. If it's Dada5000, he used to be a cage fighter. Yeah.

I'm pretty sure it's him because I think now he's into like WWE.

Do we also get introduced to Casey?

Reegs: Yeah, Yeah.

steven ml

Sidey: know, the books and whatever.

then you'd know that

He's going to be an important character

Reegs: Yeah.

Sidey: So

yeah, he's in charge of the

Reegs: But in the books, he's completely psychotic isn't he? Like, beats people to death. and Like a punish aver wearing a

Sidey: you're not going to get that in this quite, but, He's still got the hockey mask.

Dan: Well, a little bit like you know,

the,

the

Trump security detail Shredder hasn't got a lot going on around him either, Is he? And as he's going in, along on this mobile, kind of armored

vehicle a load of motorbikes and it's really cool because you see one, but then there's like eight slipping out behind it.

And just the angle and then suddenly they're surrounded and they,

you know,

they put like, magnets with bombs on all the vehicles surrounding

Reegs: of the

Dark night

Dan: Yeah. Well they,

they

all, they all go, all get blown up just leaving a helicopter. And two guys from the motorbikes who jump onto the lorry start.

Welding a hole or,

you

know, sort of using

metal

cutting Equipment. A big magnet comes down from the helicopter, and they try and bust shredder out. This time, the garbage collection

truck

Sidey: Yeah.

Dan: about starting.

Sidey: phoned in and said that this is the plan, this is what they're going to do, so you guys need to get out there.

So,

they talk to Splinter and off out and yeah, so they're now in pursuit in their

souped up garbage

truck.

Reegs: Yeah, it's got robotic nunchuck arms that come

Dan: Yeah, yeah. It's

Reegs: like

a

roof mounted net gun and

Dan: of things. And the, And the the drain covers get spat out at the front. But

it's not quite enough because it's not, it's not

It's too early in the film for, for them to

to win

the day here in Shredder to be

caught

and thrown back in a prison. So he does make his escape and

Reegs: Well, as he's being winched up, like the helicopter thing gets fucked off, doesn't it? So Stockman's got this teleportation device thing that he's

just

like magicked out of nowhere and they're like, okay, well let's use that.

Dan: They didn't want to use it then, but they have to

use it earlier because

they're just, the

the

turtles are just about to throw a net around him but he gets

put

into interdimensional kind of space

They're

not sure where he's gonna go.

Yes,

Reegs: it turns out he's been hijacked

Dan: he's been hijacked by krang.

Reegs: Yeah. He was like this sort of hideous brain monster thing that

Dan: lives in a robot

Reegs: If you've seen the cartoon, it's a fairly faithful

If

Sidey: yeah, he kind of lives in the midriff, doesn't he's got

Dan: And he, he,

He has a, he's, he knows what shredders thinking before Shredder knows what he's thinking and he just totally dominates him with these

Little

tentacle kind of

feelers that

he's got and poke and Shredder and then he eventually just freezes him,

puts him away, and oh no. It's a little bit

Reegs: end of the movie, so let's, let's wait until we,

there's a

Sidey: That's

Dan: we go through the

Sidey: reminds me of when Megatron meets Unicorn in the original Transformers the movie.

is when the big bad that you've always known as the ultimate big bad

gets Overtaken by someone even

Reegs: Yeah. The even worse, bad,

Sidey: And you are now working for me

kind of

situation.

Reegs: And MacGuffin fans can go bananas here because there's three of them. They need Krang needs three MacGuffins.

Sidey: To build one big McGuffin.

Reegs: To build one big

Dan: right.

and

the, And the goals have been

the McGuffin goals. They've been separated from around the world, haven't they? There's one in a museum. There's one in a. an artifact in brazil in the in the amazon and and there's one they have i think Yeah, and once they

Sidey: a dilly, isn't he? He says, like, you look after

Dan: Once they get these three pieces they'll be able to open up a portal, which means they can get his Death Star over for want of better words, and Krang will then dominate the world.

and the universe

Reegs: Shredder by his side, and naturally Shredder is up for letting this alien warlord completely destroy the

Dan: Earth.

Yeah.

Sidey: need you to kill these four turtles.

Reegs: I just need you to kill these four turtles, so he go take this purple shit, that'll help

Dan: you.

The purple shit, yeah. And when he gets the purple shit back to his mad professor friend, he knows exactly what to do with it.

Sidey: Yeah.

Cris: it. And meanwhile he meets Seamus and Bebop and whatever, rockstar.

And they kind of,

Dan: well, they're the test

players. Guinea

pigs, aren't they? They're like, well, we've got this purple shit now does it work. Well, try it on these two idiots,

Sidey: been in the bar saying how they, they need to step up and they need to become more of a blah, blah, blah.

And then shredder comes into the bar, takes them away.

Dan: So these two idiots bebop and Rocksteady

though they're all the way through the characters, they're clearly the baddies and everything. They love each other, don't they? They've got

a

real kind of friendship

towards each

other.

Reegs: Was a platonic

Dan: think it was fairly platonic.

I wasn't reading much going on there.

Reegs: thing, but They were very close, definitely.

Dan: but they, they looked out for each other.

So, yeah.

But they're both

Reegs: Anyway, they're both mutated into hideous

things. one

a

Dan: a rhino.

Sidey: Well, there you explain it as, as

like an evolutionary step back.

and you're

Reegs: the most amazing thing. Every human as the trait, trace

Sidey: You're

just like what? No!

There's a lot of animals in

Dan: we could turn into anything

It's just what you're, you're

kind of.

Yeah. Shadow

Cris: and April gets the thing. No.

Reegs: Right. Did you see as well, he's got a dark gun and he's got, he loads it, it's got two barrels but they Obviously the barrels are bound together and the two guys are standing about four foot apart, and he shoots them both at the same time with the same gun like How does that work?

Sidey: but you're right, Chris. Yeah. April's sort of watching through a window, isn't she? she, goes in and

sort of tries to steal some of the ooze.

Cris: Yeah,

Reegs: we should point out, these two guys have now mutated into these like monstrous, grotesque.

There's

no like body horror for the you know, they're not like going out of their mind in like how

disgusted

they're

they love

Sidey: and also yeah, that's they're really enthused

Reegs: that it like that for pretty much the first thing they do is check out how big their wings are.

Dan: Yeah

Sidey: I

Same as the whole guy. How do their clothes still fit?

Reegs: Yeah

Sidey: anyway

Dan: Well, they they you know, they feel great. They say that don't they? So obviously all this juice is making them feel pumped up and good about themselves

Sidey: pumped

up and good about themselves. Yeah, she

Reegs: Yeah. She

Dan: purple boots? she slides under a door, waves

them goodbye,

Reegs: She's rescued by Casey

in

his full hockey get up, and he smacks him about with the pucks and whatnot. I watched him being brilliant at that thing and thought, why the fuck doesn't he play hockey?

Sidey: He's wasted as a police officer. Yeah.

definitely.

Dan: Well, he wants to be a detective, doesn't he? That's his dream. He keeps on saying it over

Sidey: the turtles have obviously been quite

out there in list. They're they're coming out of the shadows if you like and Casey's seen them at the point where shredder was rescued

and

now laura Line appears as the

Person from the fbi or

Reegs: Yeah, she's the nypd chief police

chief. Yeah, she's playing it totally straight She's like acting as if she's in ozark. like she's like in that, you know zone, but with all this ridiculous shit

Sidey: and Someone's saying to her. No, there was some like mutant

turtle things that helped

She's like, what the fuck are you talking about? Yeah.

You're fired. So she's in it.

Reegs: Yeah Donatello deduces that that mutagen shit that April was talking about could be used to not only track the some more McGuffin type shit,

to track Bebop and Rocksteady, but also Can mutate them back into humans and one drop, I think he demonstrates

to Leonardo on his hand, doesn't he?

And it goes into like a

Dan: And this becomes some kind of an ethical issue because Leonardo wants to keep this for the rest of the group. And overhearing this they disagree because they feel it should have been a group decision. He shouldn't make all the, the, the decisions. And this

causes a little

Reegs: tell the rest of the group, but Mikey overhears.

Dan: Yeah, Yeah, well

this,

this has caused problems in the family.

Sidey: Yeah, it

Reegs: he has.

so

they get the one from the Natural History Museum, McGuffin number one,

and then they fuck off to Brazil, Bebop and Rocksteady in a tank.

Dan: Yeah. The

Reegs: turtles have got access to a plane, because, of course.

And

they're

suddenly there as well, and there's a great sequence here where they're doing like this mid air shit, jumping planes

and all sorts of

Dan: Yeah, that's right, but although they're fighting Shredder, they're also fighting themselves. Yeah.

And this,

this Simon is really the

the

Reegs: would be my big criticism of the movie.

It would be good if they had some other storyline other than, you know, clash about leadership. Everyone realises they have to work

together, victory by combined

Dan: where we're going. Yeah. and it all surrounds kind of

them not

being strong enough individually to beat the enemy, but collectively they could be.

And for the millionth time,

Sidey: prick about it all. He's just a big meathead and he's like, no, we should just go.

and

Reegs: he's like, no,

Dan: who does, the wheelchair. Partridge. I really like him. He's

Cris: nice big guy.

The

Dan: Yeah.

with a

Cris: the hawk

or whatever, the falcon and these other two, the ones with the, the one with the small head and the one with the big

Dan: one with the big head Well, they're being kind of blamed for some of the, the damage and stealing the blue.

because they've edited a video to make them look bad. But then they go,

well,

watch this video. When they eventually get footage of the full video, they show it to the police who then understand, oh, wait a minute, bebop and Rocksteady look a bit weird here. Maybe they're.

talking

Sidey: the bit in the police station ends with Casey and April being

captured.

Reegs: with Casey and April being captured. Yeah. So Leonardo's then able to

Sidey: Yeah, so Leonardo's then able to throw that in.

reference face that you being a fucking prick has now led to your friends getting fucking captured and you're a cunt.

Dan: but when were you hear the, the turtles speak, and I guess this was the,

the

overall charm from the beginning, they're, they're very.

Sidey: Teenage. They're bro dudes,

Dan: and They're bro dos and

they're really kind of, you know, nice and

and

likeable, and

and

enthusiastic, and there's obviously one of,

you

can choose your favorite and all the rest of it.

So, it was, every interaction in the film that I saw them, I actually quite liked those bits. I thought they were, Well, for

Reegs: Well, for better or

worse, I mean, this is probably the crux of it, Cause you said you didn't like the cartoon, but this just felt like a completely faithful recreation of

Dan: of a cartoon

Reegs: I watched four years ago, or wherever it

Sidey: quite like

Dan: um so,

yeah.

if

Reegs: So yeah, if you didn't like it, then that's going to so anyway, we got right. Basically, we're all heading to the showdown. We'll cut to the fucking chase because basically Crang is bang into his pills and dance music. So he wants to bring this thing called the Technodrome into into Earth

Dan: and,

And they get all the pieces together and the portal starts to open.

Reegs: And the Technodrome's there, it's coming in, it's like giant Tetris pieces in the sky, like assembling.

Sidey: There is a Transformers movie where they try and bring Cybertron through. It is exactly that.

Reegs: where they try And bring Cybertron into it. it's just millions of

Sidey: it's just millions of Building blocks of a thing.

Dan: That's

Sidey: passing through a city

and, assembling

Dan: and

then

Sidey: while they

Dan: jump on is the final fight. Yeah, they're in the video game.

They'll be surfing them or jumping them on to get to the final battlefield

which is

basically a death star.

Reegs: Yeah But there is some good stuff going on who would have believed it because shredder betrays Stockman

Who would have saw that coming? And then Shredder is then betrayed by Krang!

Sidey: And if you,

if you

pause it, I tried to do

Reegs: I tried to do that, but I wasn't really sure what I was looking

Sidey: what I was looking at. I think it's some pretty cool stuff that you

Reegs: I bet there was some pretty cool stuff there that you could see in the and, right, here is a big fight and combine Turtle to defeat

krang.

plus also Casey and, you know, April and Vern have got their own thing going on. Vern is learning a bit of humility.

Casey and April are having a little bit of a romantic subplot. As they, they, they're also dispatched to do more McGuffy

type

Dan: stuff The, the

Reegs: of

Sidey: show. They have to stop. doing that. It's like, it's like the Forest Moon

of Endor where they, They have to turn off the portal so that it stops assembling and they have, the turtles have to beat Krang So it's, you know, it's like a battle on two fronts.

Reegs: it.

Dan: we all, get to live the lives that we live because of those,

those

turtles.

Reegs: Yeah. Yes.

So we finally get to see April do some journalism. She tells us on TV about

bebop

and rock steady being back in custody, which is nice to wrap up the plot.

And stockman remains at large the turtles are then honored in a very cheap looking ceremony that had about 15 people there Yeah.

Sidey: Like one of I she says something like but who are these people and does it and then she goes, but does it matter

Blah, blah, blah.

Reegs: She offers them the chance to come out of the shadows basically and they sort of say nah, but we'll work together We'll stay in the shadows a bit, but we'll work with you to protect New york.

and to symbolise that here's us dancing on the statue of

Sidey: in the flamey bit at the top yeah.

Reegs: In the flamey

Cris: Like michael jackson,

Reegs: and close credits basically

Sidey: Was there a post credits thing? Because I,

Dan: Teenage Mutant Ninja There was a little bit of animation kind of at the end, I think It went

Reegs: Oh, it went into like a punk version of the song Which I was terribly offended by

Sidey: You preferred the Vanilla Ice from the 90s.

Dan: so what this

is, this

was 2016.

So 8 years ago I mean, nothing wrong with the turtle appearance. I must say, you know, if you're going to put in live animation, it was all really good costumes and

CG

or whatever.

Sidey: I didn't, I don't agree with that. but That's just me.

That's

Dan: I quite liked that.

I thought

I did like their characters.

I did like some of the dialogue and things, you know what you're getting. It's, you know,

teenage Mutant Ninja Hero Turtle story, you know, it is like you say, off the comic book kind of cartoons.

Reegs: Yeah. Well I don't think it is like

Dan: not Not as dark. Maybe is the

the

comic book

Sidey: dark, but it is you know, otherworldly. there is a crank is obviously in it and it's they go into different dimensions or whatever.

I

don't

Dan: know if that's a

Sidey: lot more acceptable than this, which I thought was dreadful.

It's, this is just

so

So this.

Zero out of ten for me.

I hated it. I was clock watching the whole way through.

I it was just like an appalling CGI,

like,

shit fest. And so derivative of other things. I don't know that this,

Because

when we get to talk about the kids thing, I don't know whether this is a plot lifted straight from the books.

Dan: it is.

Sidey: But it was, it,

could, it

just, it looked like you'd just taken the Transformers out of the Transformers

movies and

started the titles in it. It was, it was exactly

Dan: fucking same. I, I've not seen a lot of the Transformer films.

you see,

so, that's

Reegs: Yeah, I really,

I really

dislike the Transformers movies and I get your criticisms and I see what you're saying.

Maybe it's just something about the turtles world, because it's so fucking balmy. They spent, you can't believe they spent $250 million dollars or whatever it was on this thing to put these like warthogs farting on

Sidey: like warthogs

Dan: This

cost 250 million.

Reegs: Oh, it was some,

Sidey: films I think it's, I've got the I've got

Dan: Still, no.

Sidey: for this one, but it would have been similar.

for

Dan: Did it

make

Reegs: And it was,

it

Cris: no, it is shocking.

Reegs: Did

it make

money?

Sidey: it make money?

Reegs: though. It sank the franchise, didn't

Sidey: though, it? sank

Dan: it. it, it lost,

Sidey: didn't it? If you're calling

Reegs: He is

Cris: is underused. It's not only that, I agree with you. I, I totally agree. I give it minus zero if I could. It's not as bad as Napoleon Dynamite, obviously, because that's the worst thing ever happened to humanity. But this is terrible. This is shocking and I don't know where they spend that money.

I know it's spending on CGI and all that kind of stuff, but whoever wrote the conversations, come on. I, I mean, listen, English is not my first language. I could have written this in Arabic. I know three words in Arabic and it would have sounded better. The, oh, it was just, the only good thing is, is Megan Fox, because she's so hot.

That's the only good thing that you can actually watch and say. Not acting, acting is not that great, but it's like, okay, she's pretty and you know, she's good looking and you kind of get to see her in the

Dan: on the eye

Cris: and

Everything

else

is terrible

Sidey: Yeah, it's garbage.

Reegs: Well, let's

Cris: and they look slimy as well. Sorry, they look slimy.

Why would they make them look slimy and sweaty?

Reegs: They live in the

Cris: Yeah, I know, but that's, that's not, you have to kind of find them likable. I couldn't, all of them I thought were worse one than the other. And the rat, Mr. Whatever his face is splinter.

In, in the way I remember it, he didn't look so dirty. Yeah, I don't know. He just, he was,

he would just give you wisdom.

And he was, yeah. He's like, well, yoga, yoga, yoga

gives you, He

looks quite ugly, but he doesn't look repulsive. I don't know. He, everything was. I

Sidey: Yeah. What do you think race? I think you've had a better

Reegs: I thought it was okay. I think

for better or worse

it seemed to be a very faithful recreation of what I remember the turtles to be like when I was a kid.

as the car, Like it just seemed to be that thing brought to life with an extraordinary amount of money spent on it.

And I did, if you didn't vibe with the character designs, it's going to be a problem. I did, I did quite like them and I liked some of the actors involved. So it was

okay, yeah.

Dan: Yeah, same for me. It's like you know, I know what I'm getting in my my heart.

I've never seen this film and I've never seen any you know, I didn't see the first one.

I haven't seen the transform ones. I tend to stay away from them.

but

watching

this for,

what

was it, an hour and

Sidey: No, it's Two hours. It's also way too long.

Dan: it was,

you

know, I I didn't hype it up to myself. I wasn't expecting a lot and I, I watched

Sidey: fucking mind that you could be okay with this and not like Fast and Furious.

Dan: Well, we Faster than Furious I'd seen before and

it's,

yeah, They're okay.

Yeah, they're

Sidey: that You

said it, it was fucking awful.

Dan: Yeah, we would've been.

Sidey: Yeah, it's better, than this, it's better than this. But

Reegs: But I think the the new ones, the like CGI movies are supposed to be really

Sidey: Yeah, I've watched the

the

one that Thingy's done, produced.

Reegs: Thingy?

Sidey: Seth.

Dan: McFarland,

Reegs: Rogen

Sidey: Rogen Has produced the new movie, It's the Animated movie. It's sort of not animated in exactly the same style as the

Spider

Man one, but it has a distinct kind of look to it. It's really cool. It's, that's really good. Alright. Definitely worth checking

Dan: But yeah, I mean, given choice.

I wouldn't watch fast Sort The Furious or this, you know? I mean, this is for the pod. We've reviewed it and it was okay. It's a six.

Cris: For me, I've never watched this in my life any of the turtle movies since the first one that came out and I had the same impression in the nineties. The first one, I had the same impression that it was nowhere near as good as nostalgia told me that the cartoons and everything I've seen about them was.

And this one, if you tell me there's a new one coming out or there's anything in the turtle world coming out, good, bad cartoons, real anything, I'll never watch it

Sidey: I

didn't like the character line, but it's still better than the Men in Suits won. And then I saw recently, I think it might've even been today, that

there was

there, the

suits from those

films were up for sale and they look,

now that they've kind of deteriorated, a bit, they look absolutely hauntingly fucking terrifying. Yeah, awful,

Reegs: There's maybe, you could do like elderly mutant ninja turtles

and do them in a retirement home.

yeah,

Sidey: because this was rubbish for me, sorry.

Reegs: The

dads are

split.

Dan: are split.

Cris: split decision.

Dan: 1, Episode 25 of Teenage part

Sidey: one. Episode 25 of

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and this one's Part 1

of

the end of Season 1. and It's called the

Reegs: the 2012 to 2017

series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so we're not going back to the 80s.

Sidey: Yes, it's, this is

a CG animated

Reegs: Cause there have been a number of TV series

Dan: Yeah.

Reegs: this. And it did take me a while to work out exactly which one I was watching,

Sidey: available on Prime, so you'll be able to watch it there. It's called Showdown and it's part one. And it is

exactly

the plot.

Reegs: basically the last, yeah. Showdown is pretty much the bit of what we have just described happening.

With Krang bringing the Technodrome. again, he's well into his like dance music and that.

so he brings,

so, I don't even I

Sidey: didn't know that. I just looked in season one and this was the highest scoring. It has 8. 9 average score on IMDB. So I thought, well that's

Dan: start at

Sidey: that'll

Reegs: So

Cris: should be good. Yeah.

Reegs: The writers of the movie that we

Sidey: just copied and pasted this.

Dan: There's their

storyboard. what's operated. Yeah. Yeah.

Reegs: on. I? Yeah. So,

Sidey: but this has, it has, I think I'm right in saying it has the same lyrics to the original theme song.

with a different.

music.

More rock. And Yeah. It caught me off guard. I was like, Ooh, I don't like that. Yeah. But still brings a, an air of familiarity with it.

Reegs: And the CGI, animation for me was the controversial bit, and I think because it was 2012, it had not aged well,

Sidey: it looks quite primitive. CGI.

Reegs: primitive CGI. Yeah.

Sidey: But not,

Dan: come a long way since then. It's

Sidey: as offensive as the thing we watched. What was the last CG thing we all really hated the way it looked?

I can't remember what it was. Anyway, this

this

wasn't, it didn't offend me like that. It just looked like something that was a bit

old.

and clunky, bit basic.

Reegs: Yeah.

Sidey: But like we said, yeah, the plot of it is that there's going to be this big rave

But, But this one, The slight variances in it. You've still got the foot, you've still got Shredder, you've got Krang, but

there's loads of Krang robots.

a

bit like when Iron Man and Ultron creates all those other things. But also you're going to get some splinter fighting

Dan: Yeah.

Sidey: Because when the turtles go off to do the whole Krang thing.

Splinter

has to go off and fight Shredder.

Reegs: We get a bit of his origin story as well, don't we?

Splinter's origin story, they were part of some clan,

Sidey: it's sort of, it. I guess it was like the proto kind of foot, So, it was a foot clan thing.

and

he, he was morally not up for it. Splinter. so he left and he, he basically effectively betrayed Shredder.

Yeah. And he had a different name. He had an actual name. the Japanese kind of name, I think, if I remember rightly.

Dan: the,

the pain runs deep.

It goes

a long way in him. I

mean,

the

all the turtles, they've been around since, I say we were kids, and they

absolutely

exploded onto the scene, and the life of the characters seem to find a new generation still, and they slightly change it, the cartoons, and it's probably another one since another cartoon version already.

I think they seem to come every five years or so. There's another,

edition,

and

another story, whether it be cartoon or film. There's, there's an endur enduring money

market for it

now really isn't it? I mean it's they're not bringing anythings

Reegs: toys When you go to like a toy shop you do still see Like they're bringing out new

Sidey: Yeah, this one had the design of them being interchangeable with different colored bandanas There wasn't really anything to distinguish. between them particularly

Reegs: they're probably not like that in the comic, are they?

Sidey: not like that in comic

Dan: Was having watched

movie, to then sit down and watch it all at home? nothing new here. How are you

how are you setting this

Sidey: Howie sent me something that was not like that, but

jokey. and It was like, what if the turtles realize their weapons are actually like lethal? And it's like

Leonardo just stabbing people.

and

rap up. Just like hacking people to bits. And it's like, yeah, why think they've got these weapons, but they don't really ever kill anyone, no.

Dan: them. Yeah, who wonder what it would be like if it was

Reegs: the

are,

Dan: an 18.

Reegs: R

like John Wick style, where arms are going flying

and

that sort of

thing. Just

Dan: absolute people freaking out.

Sidey: are going flying, that sort of thing. Just absolute

people

freaking out. I didn't mean to commend

Reegs: Oh, I did mean to commend both the TV thing and the film for actually featuring a

little bit

of like ninja y stuff

in a

movie that has the word ninja in it.

Because it's not always the case, is

it? But there was some stealth and breaking in and heisty type things going on in both of that was quite good.

yay?

Dan: Yay?

Sidey: This

was, I

I

just wish I'd chosen different episodes, but it did it did suffer from the, the sort of, the the way that

CG CG ages quite quickly. It did suffer from that, but the story was, we'd seen

it was, I dunno, it's hard to form a really concrete opinion

Dan: It, I mean, it goes a long way with, I, I must admit, going into the film I

was Just past

Teenage Mutant Hero hotels. you know, it's not anything that I would choose to watch or

But having quite enjoyed the the film, you know, it's

say, there's something there I dunno, there's

Sidey: if you've got

an amazon prime account

and you can go into kindle unlimited

Dan: right?

Sidey: like

not all but loads and loads of books are available to read for free And you can get like omnibus editions where the story is focused on so if you had a favourite turtle You can get like the Raphael. omnibus book and read all that sort of stuff. So if you wanted to just see what they were actually like

in,

know, book form.

You can do

Dan: that in the

original,

Reegs: For now. Yeah.

and

I

Sidey: of your own time. Yeah.

Reegs: you

Sidey: Yeah. And I would recommend that you do that. Because I think that's the best version of the IP.

Dan: Sponsored by Amazon Primes.

Reegs: of the IP. Sponsored

by Amazon Prime. That's it, all we can say

Dan: Sponsored by Amazon Prime.

Sidey: so that was a nice word for my sponsor. I think that's it, all we can say about the

Dan: it, yeah. Turtles

Sidey: not the worst, it's just, it's

Dan: I think it will still have an enduring appeal to kids of different generations because cutey is cutey animal. with a bit an ninja.

Sidey: what That's always going to be fun, right?

Reegs: My

niece said to me the other day she is Gonna be 16 soon, she just started she

said you

Sidey: to the pod, and

Reegs: really bad.

Dan: I'd just say get fucked.

Sidey: I felt really bad. I

Reegs: yeah, that's what made me think of

it.

Sidey: fucked. I know, yeah, that's

Cris: Yep.

Dan: that

Reegs: was

turtley amazing, wasn't It

Sidey: It was A bit hit and

Dan: amazing. The

Sidey: the

non mutated turtle was the

biggest

hit.

The

red turtle.

Reegs: that was great.

Sidey: good.

Dan: the biggest

hit. Yeah,

that

was great.

not

Sidey: Not sure what's going on next week. We do know you're Riggs, you're not here for Two weeks.

Pete is back from Kilimanjaro, so maybe we can coerce him into turning up.

Dan: We should

certainly do that.

Sidey: kind of nomination. What we, Do you know what we could do? Because there's that new Axel

Dan: F. Ah, yeah, yeah.

Cinema, Are you thinking

Sidey: no, it's

Cris: it's on Netflix.

yeah.

Sidey: do it.

Dan: A watch

Reegs: Oh, that's good, yeah.

Yeah, that's

Sidey: let's have a think about that.

Anyway, all that remains is to say, sidey signing out.

Reegs: say, sign it

Cris: La revedere.

Dan: Dan's gone.
